Abstract

In this article we will present the results of a qualitative research developed through in-depth interviews with Puerto Rican men, and propose a re-elaboration of the notions of power, sex, sexuality and gender inspired by the outcomes of the research and by a social constructionist framework. Our specific research goals were to explore the discourses about manhood in a group of puerto rican men, to explore the similarities and differences among their discourses, and to discuss the key elements in the socially constructed discourses about manhood. We used discourse analysis to analyze the participants' verbalizations.
