Abstract

It could be affirmed that metaphors are embedded in our daily life, in our language and in our mental system, being this considered metaphorical by nature (LAKOFF and JOHNSON, 1980). The study of metaphors has been considered as an attempt to understand part of the communicative process, both oral and written, and to highlight the social nature that language has.

The study of metaphorical discourse is not, however, the preserve of certain researchers or university specialists, all of whom with their work contribute to a better understanding of discourse. Literature has amply demonstrated the impact of metaphors in our modern thinking, in scientific language, and in everyday life.
