There are examinated the scopes and limitations of the journalism sociological study, underthe premise that this kind of investigation must assume a relational, comprehensive and plural focus. In this way, drawing on the model proposed by Weber to press study and Norbert Elías' approaches, it is suggested the articulation of two diff erents sociological fi elds: the media studies (legal fr amework, profession's characteristics, employment situation, media property and industry) and the discourse's sociology (production and conditions of information, reception studies, etc).
