Abstract

The article analyzes the relationship among culture, politics and cultural policies in Brazil, based on the notion of pandemonium, understood as a political-cultural strategy of the Mesias Bolsonaro administration. The notion allows unveiling the singularity of the Brazilian circumstance in the international panorama, marked by the existence of neoliberalism, the emergence of authoritarian movements and governments, and overdetermined by the pandemic. The analysis provides the means to pinpoint the expedients triggered by the pandemonium to be implemented as a political-cultural strategy. The text sets in motion categories such as pandemic, pandemonium, cultural politics, cultural war and political-cultural disputes in order to understand the political performance of culture in Brazilian current days and its contradictions. The analysis employs, as procedures, theoretical texts, critical writings about the state of affairs and the few studies already carried out on the subject. The political-cultural struggle, which is taking place in Brazil nowadays, brings into play the dispute between barbarism and democracy.
